Rain, Rain...

"No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow."

~ Proverb ~

It rained all day today - spring must be coming!
After being out and about in the rain I have made a discovery: I need proper rain boots.
:S
Yes, soggy socks is not much fun.
But what is fun are shiny new rain boots!
And since they come in almost every colour/pattern one can imagine I should be able to find something out there.

New Project

"A Gustave Courbet portrait of a trout has more death in it than Rubens could get in a whole Crucifixion."

Australian-born art critic/writer/t.v. documentary maker
(born 1938)

Next...

I have a new project on the go!
After enjoying many others' 365 projects (
Lola Nova, A Lovely Little World) I have decided to do one of my own.
I'm in a sort of transitional phase of my life right now, seeking out a new career path and working on getting to know myself better.
Keeping those ideas in mind, my 365 project will be based on self portraits. One a day, any media.
I will do a weekly posting of 7 portraits, starting TODAY :D

So here it goes,
365 Self Portrait Project,
Week 1:

February 24th, 2011
February 25th, 2011
February 26th, 2011
February 27th, 2011
February 28th, 2011
March 1st, 2011
March 2nd, 2011

I am aiming to have at least one portrait up next week that is not a photograph.
I think this is going to be a good way to tap into my artistic self (lets see what kind of creative juices I can get flowing).

:)

Here are some more 365 projects...

Ice, Cats, & Davie Bowie

"I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."

Robert Frost
American Poet
(1874-1963)

:)

One of my all time favorite films, and completely goo-goo-eyed for David Bowie.

Some pictures from today.
Enjoy!

Transplanting a Plant Clipping (How-To)

Gather supplies:
- potting soil
- jar/can/pot
- plant clipping
- small stones *optional*

*if your container has a small hole in the bottom of it you can skip the stones*

Fill your container of choice with potting soil.
*if you have some small stones, add them first to the bottom of the container - this will provide a reservoir for water to pool and prevent the soil from becoming over saturated*

Dig a small hole in the center (about 1/2 the depth of the container).

Place the 'open' end of the clipping (where it was detached from the original plat) into the hole.

Fill in the hole with soil. As you do this GENTLY press down the soil around the plant clipping - add more soil as required.
Water enough to dampen soil (if the water pools and does not absorb then there is too much).

Find a sunny place for your new plant to grow :)
Check back daily.
Maybe rotate the plant periodically so that it gets even sun.
Keep away from cold drafty windows.

Common reason house plants usually die - over watering. Just make sure the soil stays moist.
HAVE FUN! :D

Rise Against the Wind

"Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it."

British politician/statesman
(1874-1965)

February 18th was a beautiful, sunny, windy day.
(check out my pictures below)
It was SO NICE to be out in the warm air.
Today is back to -17 with windchill :S yuck.

One of the downsides to the warmer weather is all the garbage that emerges from the snow :S
It makes me sad to see so much of it when it is as simple as walking to a garbage can (often only meters away).

This is fun - Knit Tagging?
I took this picture at the library. I have seen a few books and some online stuff here and there about "knit tagging" but this is the first time I have come across some :)
Here are a couple sites/blogs of other people that are doing the same...

:(

This is a clipping off a Hyacinth that I have planted and placed in our kitchen window.
I think it may bloom and live on! :D
More plant clippings. I've been very keen to care for our plants lately and have been clipping and transplanting in an effort to increase the number of plants in our apartment.
I'm very excited for spring to arrive! :P
